The Story Of Pabal’s Vigyan Ashram

Dr. Srinath Kalbag firmly believed that bookish education, disconnected from the needs of rural communities, was not true education at all. Through his science-based experiments, he offered a strong alternative to such ineffective learning. His vision was “technical education through rural development, and sustainable, human-centric village development through that education.”
To bring this vision to life, he established Vigyan Ashram in Pabal, a drought-prone village near Pune.

Over the past forty years, Vigyan Ashram has conducted innovative experiments in technical education. Through these efforts, hundreds of rural youth — both boys and girls — were empowered to stand on their own feet, building their confidence and nurturing a spirit of innovation. Many of them became successful rural entrepreneurs who tackled local problems.

This is the story of a pioneering experiment committed to addressing societal challenges through education and technology, passionately driving village development. It is narrated by the dedicated workers who continued to lead Vigyan Ashram strongly after Dr. Kalbag.
